According to Fox Sports.com, prior to signing with the Anaheim Angels, Brian Fuentes and his agent conducted discussions with the New York Yankees. "We had some serious talks," said Fuentes' agent, Rick Thurman." It didn't end up happening."

Keith Law of ESPN.com writes that the signing of Brian Fuentes may make the Angels better off in the future than had they retained Francisco Rodriguez as the team's closer.

According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, closer Brian Fuentes' new two-year deal with the Angels will pay him $17.5 million, including $8.5 million in 2009. The deal also includes a $9 million club option for 2011 that becomes a vesting option if Fuentes finishes 55 games in 2010.
