While the Rangers expect Joaquin Benoit to toss a bullpen session Wednesday and hope he can take part in spring games by this weekend, there's rising doubt about whether he'll be over his sore right shoulder by opening day, according to MLB.com. "We think he's getting there, but it has been slow in coming," Rangers pitching coach Mark Connor said. "My hope is he'll still get his eight innings and be ready for spring training and be ready for opening day, but I have to go according to what he says. If he's not ready to pitch, I have to go with that." A healthy Benoit could end up closing games if expected closer C.J. Wilson isn't over his own ailment. However, Kazuo Fukumori is healthy, pitching great and making his own case to fill in for Wilson.

It’s something that is not going to take the whole year.” Benoit is a candidate to close for the Rangers, so it would behoove him to get into game action as soon as possible.
