In each of the past four seasons Teixeira has hit at least 30 HR with 100 RBI, so there is no doubting his value to whichever ballclub he is on. Toss in the fact that he is just 27-years-old, and you have a guy who is looking at a big fat contract sometime soon.

The Braves signed Mark Teixeira to a one-year, $12.5 million deal Thursday, avoiding arbitration. GM Frank Wren has also had some good negotiations with Teixeira's agent, Scott Boras, about a possible long-term extension. "I don't know that it signals that, I just know that we'll continue working at [a contract extension]," Wren told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We've had quite a bit of dialogue." Tex could command as much as $20 million per season when he becomes a free agent after the season, and it seems unlikely the Braves would be willing to reach that numbers, but we'll see.
