Lyle Overbay will undergo hand surgery today in Baltimore, which will end his 2007 season, according to the Toronto Sun. He finishes the year with a .240 average, 10 homers and 44 RBI in 122 games.

Lyle Overbay will have a procedure next week to remove four screws from his hand, according to the AP. He could be used as a pinch-hitter or defensive replacement this week before having the surgery, but he won't get enough playing time to have any value.

Lyle Overbay was back in the lineup Saturday after sitting out Friday with flu-like symptoms, the AP reports. "I saw him when he got here," manager John Gibbons said. "He's feeling better. Got some fluids in him." Overbay went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Saturday, dropping his average to .255.

Lyle Overbay didn’t start on Thursday because of a dizzy spell in his hotel room that caused him to fall and hit his head against a chair. "I feel fine," Overbay told MLB.com. "I got up this morning and felt a little light-headed. I kind of sat down back on my bed and next thing I knew I was face-planted into the carpet. I hit the chair on the way down. It was just a combination of probably being dehydrated and it was about 100 percent humidity yesterday." Overbay isn’t clumsy, he’s been battling dizzy spells for many years, although tests have ruled out serious ailments like seizures. He says he is feeling fine now and should be ready to take the field this weekend.

The Blue Jays activated Lyle Overbay from the 15-day disabled list before Thursday's game against Boston, according to the AP. He went 1-for-4.

The return of Lyle Overbay will occur soon. The Blue Jays first baseman, who is coming back from a broken right hand, will go on a rehab assignment this weekend and is expected back with the big league club Thursday. Overbay is hitting .256 with eight homers and 27 RBI this season.

Lyle Overbay had his broken right hand X-rayed on Friday. The results were good, so he was cleared to begin taking batting practice on Monday, according to the Toronto Sun. He should return from the disabled list shortly after the All-Star break.

The Blue Jays placed Lyle Overbay on the disabled list Tuesday. He's expected to miss four to six weeks due to a broken bone in his right hand, an injury sustained on Sunday. Matt Stairs will handle most of the work at first while Overbay is out of action.

Lyle Overbay batted second against the Tigers on Monday, and manager John Gibbons plans to use the same alignment on Wednesday against Nate Robertson, according to the Blue Jays website. "This will be the way we'll be with Robertson, but then we'll just see where we're at," Gibbons said. "If it's working, [Overbay will remain the No. 2 hitter]. If it's not working, you'd be crazy not to make adjustments. But I think it'll work." Overbay primarily batted fifth in 2006.

Lyle Overbay agreed to a four-year, $24 million deal with the Blue Jays on Sunday, according to the AP. He hit .312 with 22 home runs and 92 RBI with Toronto in 2006.
