The Mets have reportedly scouted Thames extensively, and they could offer solid bullpen help to a Tigers team that is going to begin the season without Joel Zumaya and Fernando Rodney. This is only speculation at this point, but this deal would be good for Thames, who ranks as a top backup with the Tigers' right now.

The Mets have expressed interest in acquiring Marcus Thames from the Tigers, according to the Detroit Free Press. The trouble is that manager Jim Leyland is attached to Thames, which may make a deal unlikely anytime soon. The Mets could offer up Joe Smith, Jorge Sosa or Matt Wise to help shore up the Tigers bullpen.
