The Tigers and Orioles tried unsuccessfully to execute a three-way deal involving Marcus Thames this week, according to the Detroit Free Press. Baltimore has significant interest in Thames but couldn't produce the left-handed hitter the Tigers wanted in return. The Tigers have no interest in Jay Gibbons, and young star Nick Markakis obviously isn't available.

Marcus Thames was not in the lineup in Game 2 of the ALCS on Wednesday. Manager Jim Leyland played a hunch and went with lefthanded hitting backup Alexis Gomez instead of Thames.
