John Rodriguez, who sprained his ankle while walking down the dugout steps at Busch Stadium Sunday, is expected to return to the lineup tonight, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Rodriguez was available on Tuesday but got the day off to rest his ankle.

John Rodriguez did not start for the Cardinals on Sunday after spraining his right ankle the day before. He did make a pinch-hit appearance in the sixth inning, however, striking out to end a six-game hitting streak.

John Rodriguez sprained his right ankle Saturday when he tripped over an exposed nail on the dugout steps. He stayed in the game after he was hurt, then pulled up at second base after an RBI double in the third inning. He was removed and walked off the field after briefly consulting with trainer Barry Weinberg. The sprain does not appear to be serious though. "Don't worry about it, it's a one-day thing. I just want to wrap it up and go after it tomorrow," said Rodriguez.

John Rodriguez hit his second home run for the Cardinals on Friday since being called up from Triple-A Memphis five days ago. In four starts, he's hit .316 (6-for-19).

The Cardinals have recalled John Rodriguez from Triple-A Memphis to replace the injured Reggie Sanders on the roster, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Rodriguez was hitting .342 with 17 home runs and 47 RBI in just 120 at-bats at Memphis before the promotion. He began the season at Triple-A Buffalo and hit .247 with five homers and 23 RBI in 178 at-bats with the Bisons.
