Miguel Olivo signed a one-year contract with the Royals Thursday, according to the AP. Olivo was not tendered a contract by the Marlins before becoming a free agent. "Miguel is a talented catcher with a power bat and a very strong throwing arm," Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. "With him and John Buck, they form one of the most powerful catching duos in baseball." Olivo should split time behind the plate with John Buck.

The Marlins did not tender a contract to Miguel Olivo, making him a free agent. Olivo hit 16 homers in 452 at-bats in '07, but he also struck out 123 times and had a ghastly .262 on-base percentage. The Marlins plan to split catching duties next season between Matt Treanor and Mike Rabelo, according to the Miami Herald.

Miguel Olivo was suspended for five games Sunday and fined for his role in Saturday's brawl with the Mets. Olivo has appealed the suspension so he will not begin serving the penalty until next season, according to the AP.

Miguel Olivo was ejected from Saturday's game for throwing a punch at the Mets' Jose Reyes. Olivo was standing near the mound during a pitching change, while Reyes was jawing at Olivo from third base. Olivo charged at Reyes, but his swing missed Reyes, who was not ejected. Expect Olivo to face a suspension when next season gets underway.
