Heading into the season finale, manager Trey Hillman is uncertain who will be the Royals' starting catcher in 2009 between Miguel Olivo and John Buck, according to the KC Star. Hillman said, "It’s just something we’re going to have to continue to massage through in the off-season, after we have a little time to decompress and evaluate some things. Miggy has done a great job of continuing to improve his game management. Buck’s throwing has gotten better. His release times have improved, So I actually see improvement from both of them in the areas that they needed to improve."

It could happen because I like to create options. It gives us flexibility. He can run a little bit... and Miguel tears up left-handed pitching." Olivo has a .291 career average against left-handers and a .220 career average against right-handers. He was already in line for a couple starts per week. Perhaps he'll get a few starts in left, as well, making Olivo a viable AL-only play.
