Alexis Rios has improved so dramatically since he was inserted into the Blue Jays starting lineup six weeks ago that manager Carlos Tosca will try and find at-bats for him even when Vernon Wells and Frank Catalanotto return from injury, according to the Toronto Star.

Alexis Rios started in right field and batted seventh for the Blue Jays on Thursday night in his big league debut. He was 1-for-4 with a run. Rios should play every day while Frank Catalanotto is on the DL, which should be for at least another week.

Alexis Rios was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse late Wednesday night, according to the AP. Even though he hit just .259 with three home runs and 23 RBI in 46 games at Syracuse, Rios is still considered Toronto's top minor league prospect. Toronto manager Carlos Tosca said Rios will start in right field Thursday.

Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi said that he is not contemplating calling up Alexis Rios in the short term in order to help spark the team's offense, according to the Toronto Sun. Rios is off to a slow start at Triple-A Syracuse, anyway, as he's hitting just .245.

Alexis Rios has been named MVP of the Puerto Rican Winter League, according to the Blue Jays' official web site. He's considered Toronto's top prospect and batted .348 with 12 homers and 37 RBI in 40 games.
