With Vernon Wells nailed down long term, rumors have been swirling that the Blue Jays are looking to deal Alex Rios for pitching help, according to the Globe and Mail. "There's a lot of interest in Rios," GM J.P. Ricciardi said Monday. "We'd be crazy not to explore all avenues but that doesn't mean we're trading him. The Jays have been linked to the Dodgers, A's and Mets as possible trade partners.

He fouled a ball off his leg during Tuesday's game against the Nationals. The area swelled and he sat out Wednesday's game as a precaution. But the pain in his leg got worse Thursday, so the team sent him to the hospital. "Rios isn't doing too good," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. According to the Blue Jays web site, the team had its regular lineup on the field for the first time this spring on Wednesday. In that game, Eric Hinske was the starting right fielder and Alexis Rios came off the bench. In all likelihood, Rios will see plenty of action against left-handed pitching and as a backup at all three outfield positions, but he appears out of the starting lineup for now.
