Carlos Zambrano threw in the bullpen on Tuesday, one day after he flew to Miami to get a second opinion on his sore back, according to the AP. Carlos Zambrano got a second opinion on his ailing back Monday, though the results are not yet known, according to the Chicago Tribune. Zambrano had an MRI last Tuesday that revealed no structural damage to his back. "He and his agent have requested a second opinion with a doctor in Miami," trainer Mark O'Neal said. Carlos Zambrano threw a bit before yesterday's game and said his ailing back felt a little stiff, according to the Daily Southtown. After Carlos Zambrano underwent an MRI yesterday, it was determined that he won't need surgery to repair his ailing back, according to the Daily Southtown. While the Cubs believe he could return to action this year, Zambrano didn't sound too certain about that. "It depends on how I feel, and I don't feel good right now," Zambrano said. "I want to pitch, man, but I can't take a risk with my career. When you have back problems, you can hurt your shoulder with your delivery. That can be the end of my career or one or two seasons. I don't want that to happen." Rookie Jae Kuk Ryu is the top candidate to start in place of Zambrano on Saturday.

"I feel like my back was locked," Zambrano said. "The doctor talked to me [about] what can happen, 'If we want to stop you for this year.' I don't know. That's their decision." Zambrano admitted that he felt pain before the game but decided not to tell anyone. "That was my mistake," he said. "I had a problem before the game and didn't tell anybody, trying to be the hero." Zambrano will have an MRI today to determine what caused the lower-back stiffness

It appears that the elbow injury Carlos Zambrano sustained when he was hit by a swung fungo bat during the All-Star game batting practice isn't serious, though he'll be examined further today, according to the Daily Southtown.
