Mark Buehrle will have his last start of the season skipped. He's already pitched 201 innings this year, and the White Sox want to limit him since there's nothing left to play for. Either Lance Broadway or Heath Phillips will start in the lefty's place this week, but neither are worth any consideration in fantasy.

Once thought to be the biggest name likely to head elsewhere at the trade deadline, Mark Buehrle has reached a contract extension with the White Sox. The extension is for four years and $56 million, according to the AP. The lefty is 6-4 with a 3.03 ERA and 1.10 WHIP this year.

Several days after it appeared the White Sox were ready to blow up their roster and trade away top starter Mark Buehrle , the two sides may now be close to a contract extension that would keep the southpaw in Chicago. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Red Sox – who had been considered the favorite to acquire Buehrle – have dropped out of the bidding because Buehrle is no longer on the trading block as he attempts to work out a long-term deal with the White Sox.

While the Red Sox have spoken to the White Sox about Mark Buehrle and had scouts go to see the lefty pitch, a deal is not close. The Sox have no interest in giving up a prospect like outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury or pitcher Clay Buchholz, the types of players Chicago GM Kenny Williams will almost surely seek out in a deal, according to the Boston Globe. The Mets, Phillies and Brewers are also said to be interested in Buehrle.

Mark Buehrle had flulike symptoms, was dehydrated and vomited after leaving Friday's game, according to the Associated Press. He allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings against the Cubs. It doesn’t sound like Buehrle will miss his next start, but fantasy owners should keep an eye on this situation.
April 18, 2007
Mark Buehrle put it all together in his third start Wednesday, throwing a no-hitter against the Rangers. Buehrle walked just one and struck out eight; the second stat particularly notable as he had just two strikeouts in his first two starts.

Mark Buehrle appears to be cleared for his Wednesday start at Oakland, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Buehrle is nursing a sore throwing arm. "I think they are leaning on having me start and not holding me back," Buehrle said. Buehrle did admit he was a bit sore Monday morning, one day after throwing his first side session in the bullpen since the injury and said he felt some pain when he threw his curveball. But it wasn't enough of a concern to force him out.

Mark Buehrle is probably going to start Wednesday afternoon's series finale at Oakland, though manager Ozzie Guillen plans to be careful with the pitcher, the AP reports. Buehrle is nursing a sore throwing arm. "We'll keep eyes close on him," Guillen said. "I worry about him getting tight." Buehrle said Monday that no one on the club has confirmed his Wednesday status yet.
April 8, 2007
Mark Buehrle said the swelling on his bruised left forearm has gone down, and he expects to start Wednesday at Oakland, according to the AP. "It's a lot better," he said. "The swelling has gone down, a lot more than it was yesterday. They are doing everything they can to get me out there."
April 8, 2007
Mark Buehrle, whose hand is still swollen from getting hit by a line drive in his first start, hopes to make his next scheduled start on Wednesday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "Because my hand's swollen, it felt like I was throwing softballs," Buehrle said of playing catch before Saturday's game. "If it's my choice, I'll pitch [Wednesday], but we have to see what they say." If Buehrle can't go, the Sox may move Javier Vazquez up to pitch on three day's rest.
April 7, 2007
Mark Buehrle's lower left arm was sore and his hand swollen Saturday, but it didn't keep him from venturing into the cold to play some catch at U.S. Cellular Field, the AP reports. Buehrle was hit in the left forearm by a line drive off the bat of Cleveland's Ryan Garko on Thursday, forcing him out of the game in the second inning. X-rays were negative and he was diagnosed with a bruise. "My hand is a little swollen, so it felt like I was throwing a softball, but other than that, there were no problems," Buehrle said.

Mark Buehrle, who was hit on the left forearm by a line drive in his first outing, is still likely to make his next start against Oakland on Wednesday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "He felt better today," pitching coach Don Cooper said. "Hermie worked on him Thursday and again [Friday.] We'll see how he is [today], but I think it's 70-30 he'll be OK to pitch [his next start]."
April 6, 2007
X-rays on Mark Buehrle's pitching arm came back negative Thursday, and he's considered day-to-day, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. "I'm going to try to do everything I can to get back out there," said Buehrle, who was forced out of his first start after taking a line drive off his arm. If Buehrle can't make his next start Tuesday at Oakland, rookie Nick Masset could get the call instead.
April 5, 2007
Mark Buehrle had to leave Thursday's outing in the second inning after getting hit on the pitching arm by a line drive. Buehrle was diagnosed with a contusion on his forearm and is considered day-to-day at this point. He will be re-evaluated tomorrow.
April 4, 2007
Mark Buehrle has told the White Sox he will allow them to counter or match any free-agent offer he gets after the year, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Of course if Buehrle doesn't pitch considerably better than how he did in 2006 (4.99 ERA, 1.45 ratio), the market might not be that active. His 2007 debut comes Thursday against Cleveland.
March 16, 2007
Mark Buehrle threw 6 1/3 solid innings in a "B" game Thursday, allowing a run on four hits and striking out six, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. It's his first piece of positive news this month, as he's been getting hammered in the regular games.
March 11, 2007
Mark Buehrle still hasn't turned things around after going 3-7 with a 6.44 ERA in the second half of last season, as his spring ERA now stands at 11.00, according to the Chicago Tribune. "Obviously it isn't as big of a deal [as the regular season]," he said. "You're getting your work in, getting your pitch count up, getting your innings in. [But] I don't like getting hit around. I don't care what situation. I want to go out there and get guys out."
March 8, 2007
It's very unlikely that Mark Buehrle and the White Sox will agree on a contract extension anytime soon, according to the Chicago Tribune. Both parties remain open to talks, but the White Sox aren't likely to offer anything more than three years, while Buehrle is looking for something more long term.
