The trade rumor mill in Kansas City now includes second baseman Mark Grudzielanek , who is reportedly drawing interest from the Mets. According to the Kansas City Star, Grudzielenak is on a "short list" of players the Mets are interested in after losing starting second baseman Jose Valentin to injury. The reigning American League Gold Glove winner is hitting .302 this season.

Mark Grudzielanek underwent successful knee surgery to repair cartilage damage on Friday and is expected back in about a month, according to the AP. It was the same knee that doctors performed an arthroscopic procedure on during spring training. "It wasn't anything that we didn't expect. It was just an ordinary cartilage surgery, so that's good," said manager Buddy Bell. "There's no bone damage or anything like that. We're hoping he'll be back within a month."

Mark Grudzielanek was placed on the DL Thursday, and he's slated to undergo knee surgery on Friday - his second knee operation since March, according to the AP. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined. "We don't know how significant that is until Dr. Joyce gets in there and sees the extent of the damage," he said. "I guess he hyperextended it or something. There's a small divot in there, a flap that is the problem. We're not sure what the extent of the damage is." Esteban German will take over at second base for the Royals.

That’s why I came out of there,” he told the Kansas City Star. “When I ran to first in my first at-bat I landed on the base.
