Chris Bootcheck came out of his first appearance in his return from a strained oblique feeling ready to resume his middle relief role, having given up one hit in a scoreless inning against the Mariners on Sunday, according to MLB.com. Bootcheck commented, "There was the excitement, the adrenaline, the numbness you get in your first big league game. It's good to get that first one out of the way. Now I can think about staying closed in my delivery, getting ahead in the count, changing speeds and pitching, rather than trying to control the adrenaline."

Chris Bootcheck is making favorable progress from his strained oblique ailment, according to MLB.com. The Angels were pleased with his rehab start for high Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday. The reliever "showed great command and good velocity," according to Manager Scioscia. He notably retired all six batters he faced, while striking out three. Scioscia noted that Bootcheck likely needs another rehab start or two to increase his stamina before reclaiming his middle-relief job with the Angels.

Reliever Chris Bootcheck is making progress, according to the LA Times. He has been out since early March because of a rib-cage strain, but has been long-tossing at 120 feet and is expected to start throwing off a mound late next week. He remains doubtful to be ready for Opening Day.
March 14, 2008
Chris Bootcheck remains doubtful to be ready for the start of the regular season, according to the LA Times. "I wouldn't rule it out, but the emphasis needs to be on being 100 percent, so when you're asked to go out there and help the team you can do it without holding back or guarding anything," said Bootcheck. He's dealing with a strained left oblique, an injury that needs to be dealt with cautiously to avoid an extensive setback.
March 11, 2008
Chris Bootcheck was able to play some long-toss on Monday from 90 feet, just a week after straining his left oblique, according to MLB.com. "I kind of ramped it up, to see if I'd feel anything there," Bootcheck said. "It went very well. It's a little tight, but no discomfort. I'm trying to do what I can each day to get myself ready to pitch again. I don't know when I'll be back on a mound, but I want to be ready when they decide it's time." Bootcheck added that he hasn't ruled out being available on opening day. That may be wishful thinking, as a simple tweak of an already-strained oblique can set players back weeks. Expect the Angels to play it cautiously with the reliever and hope for a quick return.
March 5, 2008
Chris Bootcheck, and his strained left oblique, will likely be on the sidelines for up to eight weeks, this according to MLB.com. "I've heard anywhere from four to six [weeks], six to eight," Bootcheck said. "The doctor said within four to 10 days, they'll know a lot about timeframes for throwing off a mound and all that." Bootcheck doesn't figure to be worthy of much attention except in deep AL Only leagues anyway, and for now it's best to leave him on waivers.

Chris Bootcheck suffered a left oblique injury on Sunday and had to leave the game in the fourth inning. "He felt something down his side," manager Mike Scioscia tells MLB.com. "It tightened up on him, so we'll get it checked." Bootcheck is day-to-day.
