Boof Bonser has been removed from the Twins starting rotation, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "By no means are we giving up on Boof Bonser," Gardenhire said. "We love the guy. He's got three major league pitches. He competes. But it just looks like it's kind of flat right now. Take a step back, give another guy a shot, and that'll maybe make him more hungry when he gets to spring training." Bonser will work out of the bullpen for the time being, although Gardenhire did leave the door open for the right-hander to pick up another start over the last couple of weeks. Kevin Slowey will step into Bonser's rotation spot.

Boof Bonser has maintained his weight at around 260 pounds this season, but the Twins believe he might be better off shedding 10-15 pounds for next season. "It's not like his weight really fluctuates up and down; it stays the same," manager Ron Gardenhire said, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "He comes in and does all of his work, but if we got him down to a better weight, we'll see. We'll talk to him about it and see if that will help." Bonser has a 4.93 ERA and 1.51 WHIP this season and is currently in the midst of a 12-start winless streak.

Boof Bonser tossed four shutout innings Saturday and now has an 11-inning spring scoreless streak, according to the Star Tribune. Bonser's spring ERA is 2.25. Bonser is competing for a spot in the rotation but is expected to come away with the No. 4 spot.
