Boof Bonser gave up six runs in the first inning Sunday against Detroit but found out his team has the ability to bail him out, this according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. While he pitched five shutout innings after the first, the Twins offense eventually got untracked against starter Kenny Rogers and carried it over to the Tigers bullpen. "That six-spot killed me,'' Bonser said, "I was just able to buckle down and throw six innings, give my team a chance. We pulled it off."

Boof Bonser bounced back nicely from a disappointment in his last outing to pitch four scoreless innings in the Twins’ 4-1 win over the split-squad Pirates today. Bonser allowed three hits and a walk, striking out three, and now sports a spring ERA of 3.00. Bonser has stated he hopes to pitch at least 200 innings this season, coming off an ’07 season in which he threw just 173 and went 8-12 with an ERA of 5.10. Adding an improving changeup to the menu of pitches seems to be helping, though it is a work in progress.
