Brandon Phillips had to leave Sunday's game in the third inning with a hand injury. Phillips was hit on the same hand by a pitch in the first inning but initially stayed in the game, according to SportsTicker. Phillips had precautionary X-rays, which were negative. Consider him day-to-day for the time being.

Brandon Phillips started and batted second on Thursday night, one day after being involved in a collision with Astros second baseman Craig Biggio. "I don't think he got treatment after the game," manager Jerry Narron told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "So I figured he's OK. The way he was laying there, I thought he dislocated (his shoulder)." Phillips went 2-for-5 on Thursday.

Brandon Phillips put some muscle on over the offseason, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I weigh 195," he said. "I was 187 at end of last season. I added some muscle. I did a lot of core work." Phillips hit .149 in September after hitting .330 in August, but he attributes that more to playing with a badly bruised left index finger than fatigue. "I got hurt," he said. "I wish I didn't, but what can you do?"
