Ozzie Guillen wants Juan Uribe to lose weight for next season and gain some more consistency, the AP reports. "Uribe is not bad, but he drives me crazy," said Guillen. "I'll be honest with you, Uribe can drive everybody crazy. The season is over, you look up, 20 home runs and 70 RBIs, and as a manager, you say 'how the hell can he do that?"' Guillen doesn't think Uribe has reached his potential yet. "I wish Uribe finds out how good he is. How dangerous he can be," said Guillen. Uribe is hitting .231 with 20 home runs and 66 RBIs.

The White Sox have a $5 million option on Juan Uribe for next season, but they may not exercise it unless the shortstop shows improvement in his offensive game throughout the rest of the season. "If he wants to come back, he has to give us better results for on-base percentage," manager Ozzie Guillen told the Chicago Tribune. "He has from now until the end of the season to show he can do that." Uribe is currently hitting .218 with a .273 on-base percentage, eight homers, and 32 RBI.

The attorney for Juan Uribe claims his client has been cleared of any involvement in an offseason shooting incident, the Chicago Tribune reports. Uribe was en route to Tucson from Dallas late Thursday night to join the White Sox in full-squad workouts. The White Sox expect Juan Uribe to arrive for spring training on Wednesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. He's scheduled to appear at a hearing earlier in the day in his native Dominican Republic for his alleged involvement in the shooting of two men last October. Assuming everything goes as the White Sox expect, he should join the team later that day.

Juan Uribe has a hearing scheduled next week in a Dominican court for a case involving a shooting in which two men were wounded in October, according to the Chicago Tribune. General Manager Ken Williams expects Juan Uribe to arrive on time to Spring Training, and Uribe will still be counted on to be Chicago's starting shortstop, according to the team's official site. Uribe and two other men are facing charges in the Dominican Republic, tied to a shooting where two people were injured. "I expect him to be at Spring Training on time, and if he isn't, then I'll deal with it then," Williams said. "If he's there, great. If he's focused, great. If he's not there or not focused, then Alex Cintron has a heck of a chance to play every day."
January 7, 2007
Juan Uribe said yesterday that he intends to report to spring training and that he expects his legal troubles in his native Dominican Republic to be over in a few days, according to the Chicago Tribune. "I'm confident this will clear up soon and will not affect my plans to be on time to the Sox [spring training] camp," Uribe told ESPNdeportes.com. "Monday will be key in the case because the accuser is going to present the alleged witnesses against me. I'm innocent, so I'm sure that nobody can testify they saw me in an event where I wasn't present." He was recently quoted saying that the ongoing court problems could keep him from being available for the upcoming season.

Juan Uribe may choose to sit out the 2007 season after a judge ordered him to make twice-monthly court appearances in a shooting case in his native Dominican Republic, according to the AP. "I am going to decide if I am playing in the major leagues or not this year," Uribe said. "It looks very ugly to be accused of something. But first I am going to resolve this and then I will go to the major leagues." If Uribe chooses not to play, Alex Cintron would likely take over as the White Sox shortstop.
