March 12, 2008
The battle for the starting job at second base remains a bit of a mystery, though most signs seem to point to veteran Juan Uribe, according to MLB.com. Uribe helped matters today, going 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Manager Ozzie Guillen states he has not made any firm decision. "It's a great competition. Whoever gets the job done will play every day," Guillen said. "I know Uribe doesn't want to be in that position but he has to battle and try to be the everyday second baseman." The primary combatants for the job include Alexei Ramirez and Danny Richar, and while both offer definitive upside, it appears the tone of Guillen's comments is more in the interest of motivating Uribe, and we know he's up to the challenge.

Juan Uribe is said to have a sizable edge for the starting second base spot, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He only hit .234 in 2007 but a back ailment suffered by Danny Richar has put Uribe at the top of the depth chart with just a few weeks until opening day. Juan Uribe might be traded if he doesn't win the starting job at second, according to the Chicago Tribune. The veteran is trying to make the move to the other side of second base after the Sox acquired Orlando Cabrera to play short. Uribe has good pop for a middle infielder, but his woeful average make him a borderline fantasy play - and that's assuming he ends up with a starting job.
February 21, 2008
Juan Uribe is battling for the starting spot at second base after the team brought in Orlando Cabrera in the off-season, and he is fine with that according to MLB.com. "I'm coming here to help the team in whatever capacity they want. "Yeah, I want to start, but I'm here to work hard at any position they want me to play." Uribe certainly has his faults, he has hit only .234 the past two seasons, but he has also knocked in at least 68 RBI with 16 HR the past four seasons, so if he picks up 400 AB this season he figures to be a solid middle infield option in AL Only leagues if you are in need of power.
February 14, 2008
Baltimore will scout the Sox's Juan Uribe in case 23-year-old Luis Hernandez falters as Miguel Tejada's replacement at shortstop, according to Chicago Sports. Uribe lost his starting gig to former Angel Orlando Cabrera, who was acquired in a trade for Jon Garland. Cabrera was a solid fantasy contributor in Los Angeles last year batting .301 with 35 doubles, eight home runs, 86 RBIs and a career-high 101 runs scored. Uribe has two straight seasons of 20-plus HRs, but his high strike out total and miserable batting average doesn't excite Roto owners.
