The Yankees purchased the contract of Tim Redding from Triple-A Columbus to replace the injured Chien-Ming Wang in the rotation, according to the AP. Redding was 0-5 with a 9.10 ERA in nine games (six starts) with the Padres. He allowed two runs in five innings while striking out four in his only start at Columbus.

Tim Redding was pounded by the Cardinals on Sunday before leaving his start with a sore shoulder. He allowed eight runs after giving up five hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning. He will return to San Diego to have his shoulder examined.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Tim Redding will get the first shot at securing the No. 5 starting role with the Padres. He was acquired from the Astros yesterday. "Redding's somebody we always liked," GM Kevin Towers said. "He has above-average stuff, above-average life on his fastball, an above-average breaking ball. Change of scenery could be good."

The Padres acquired Tim Redding from the Astros Monday in exchange for catcher Humberto Quintero, according to the AP. Redding was 5-7 with a 5.72 ERA in 27 games for the Astros last season and posted a 4.59 ERA in 15.1 innings this spring. He could wind up being the Padres' No. 5 starter given the struggles of Darrell May this spring.
