Mark Redman will move up a day and take Bautista's scheduled start Sunday. "We’ll put him in the bullpen,” manager Buddy Bell said, “and see if he can hold his delivery for a couple of innings in shorter roles.” Bautista allowed 11 runs on 13 hits over eight innings in his past two starts.

Denny Bautista experienced no problems with his right pectoral muscle Wednesday afternoon in a 41-pitch simulated game, according to the Kansas City Star. He is slated to throw a regular bullpen session on Friday before departing on his minor-league rehab assignment. “He looked very good,” pitching coach Bob McClure said. “No problems at all. He was up to 98 (mph), and he was throwing easy. We’re trying to keep him on the ball of his foot instead of his heel so he doesn’t keep pulling (his body through the pitch).”

I’m telling you, I feel good. I’m healthy.” Although he hopes to come off the disabled list when eligible Saturday, that isn't likely to happen. In fact, he may be sent to the minors for a couple of rehab appearances. "We want to make sure,” pitching coach Bob McClure said. “This is a guy who is a possible No. 1 starter on any team. He’s impatient. I know it. We just want to make sure that when he’s back, he’s all the way back.”
