The Rockies optioned Denny Bautista to Triple-A Colorado Springs after he managed to retire just one of the eight batters he faced on Sunday, according to the Rocky Mountain News. His ERA stands at 19.06 and his WHIP at 3.18 over 5 2/3 innings. On the upside, he did strike out six batters.

The Rockies are viewing Denny Bautista as a reliever, not a starter, according to the Denver Post. Twenty of Bautista's 26 appearances at the big league level have been as a starter. He has been one of the surprises in camp thus far. "No question about it," pitching coach Bob Apodaca said. "He possesses the ability that every bullpen needs, and that's the ability to get strikeouts."
