The Rangers had their sticks working in full force this evening, whopping the Royals 11-5. Outfielder Marlon Byrd failed to drive in a single run, but he was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two walks and two doubles to total three runs scored on the night.

Marlon Byrd was awarded the start in right field against Baltimore on Tuesday, and he failed to impress as he went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in a 8-1 loss. He is fighting for playing time in the Rangers' outfield, and this was a terrible effort from him.

Marlon Byrd will start in left field today against Baltimore, according to MLB.com. David Murphy will handle the DH role. Byrd is yet to register a hit (or walk) over 13 at-bats this season.

Marlon Byrd could be on the Cubs' radar, according to Dallas News. Cubs GM Jim Hendry Hendry reportedly insists that he won't surrender a top pitching prospect in addition to outfielder Matt Murton for Byrd. On the other hand, the Rangers insist that they won't deal Byrd without one of those prospects. Hendry also noted that he is looking for an outfielder who can play all three positions, and it is time to get a deal done.

Manager Washington has stated that Marlon Byrd will play significant time in the outfield this season in relief of Josh Hamilton, according to Dallas News. Hamilton is high on the fantasy radar, but a possible platoon does not sound good.

Marlon Byrd missed Saturday's spring training session with a head cold, according to the Dallas News . Byrd was sent to the team doctor because of a recent breakout of flu-like symptoms among the player personnel. The team is calling their outfielder day-to-day.

Marlon Byrd looks like he will stay in Texas despite on going talks that he might end up being moved to the Cubs, this according to a report on MLB.com. The Cubs want to trade Matt Murton in a 1-for-1 deal for Byrd, but the Rangers want the Cubs to throw in some quality arms in any deal, the reason that nothing has gotten done up to this point. Byrd certainly had a solid season (.307-10-70), but he just .269 over his last 69 games last season andhas yet to really establish himself. Murton hit .281 with eight HR last season in 235 AB, and owns a career line of .296/.365/.455/.820 in 830 career AB and would seem to be the player with the higher upside here.

The Rangers signed Marlon Byrd to a one-year contract Wednesday, avoiding arbitration. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Byrd had a nice year for Texas in '07, hitting .307 with 10 homers and 70 RBI, and he should get some playing time against lefties this season.
