Marlon Byrd will start to see more action in center field in the near future. The Rangers likely want to get a look at Byrd in center in case they trade veteran Kenny Lofton. If such a move goes down, Byrd would be the starter in center for the remainder of the season. "I want to see him playing center field," Washington said of Byrd. "The way he has been swinging the bat, I just want to see what he looks like out there. I guess you could say [looking at him in center] is about next year, but we can't think about that until we look at him this year."

The Rangers recalled Marlon Byrd from Triple-A Oklahoma prior to Saturday's game. Byrd was 1-for-4 in his debut and was caught stealing once. Look for Byrd, who was recently dealing with a hamstring problem, to start in center field against lefty starters until Jerry Hairston returns. He was hitting .358 with six homers and 32 RBI for Oklahoma.
