Albert Pujols went 2-for-2 with a homer, walk, two runs, and three RBI against the Orioles on Wednesday. He is batting .381 with five homers and 12 RBI over 15 games this spring. That elbow must be really bothering him, huh? Pujols remains a risky fantasy pick because of his balky elbow and the potential for surgery down the road.
March 13, 2008
Albert Pujols hit his fourth home run of the spring on Wednesday. Despite his elbow injury, the Cardinals first baseman has been productive during camp -- and his showing has been head and shoulders better than last years Grapefruit campaign. Pujols remains a risky early round pick in fantasy drafts and regardless of his spring digits he doesn't offer long term security for simulated managers.
March 10, 2008
The St. Louis Cardinals will likely bat the pitcher eighth, not ninth, in their lineup this season according to a report on MLB.com. Albert Pujols hit his second home run in as many days Friday as the Cardinals defeated the Dodgers 6-4 in Vera Beach, Florida. February 27, 2008
The Cardinals haven't played their first spring training game, but already Albert Pujols is feeling beat up. On Tuesday, the slugger complained to trainer Barry Weinberg about general discomfort, according to Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan. Passan notes that Pujols was walking around the Cards' clubhouse with Ace bandages wrapped around nearly his entire torso. That doesn't even include the right elbow issue, which has plagued Pujols since 2003 and may require surgery at some point. With the Cards possibly facing a rebuilding year, we could see Albert decide to go under the knife at some point this season. Even if he doesn't, his production could suffer. No one questions Pujols' ability, but he presents great risk as a first-round fantasy pick.
February 16, 2008
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa tells the AP the club will keep a close eye on Albert Pujols' sore right elbow this year. Pujols has a strained ligament, but he doesn't plan to hold back. "If it blows out it's going to blow out," Pujols says. "You can't control that." The ailment has bothered the slugger since 2003. "We'll definitely monitor it," La Russa explains. "Talking to the trainers this morning one of the biggest issues will be throwing so we'll be on the careful side of really firing it. He could make a swing that could tweak it, too. It's one of those deals."
January 22, 2008
Albert Pujols decided against undergoing offseason surgery on his troublesome right elbow, but it's apparently still bothering him, according to the AP. He is still unable to straighten his arm, and he said he wouldn't play through the pain the same way he did last year. "If the same problem is happening this year, I don't think I'm to play the whole year the same way," Pujols said. "I sacrificed my body." This may not be enough to knock Pujols down in your rankings, but it's a situation that certainly deserves to be monitored this spring.
