The Cardinals plan to give Albert Pujols occasional days off over the final two weeks of the season to prevent the plantar fasciitis in his right foot from worsening, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. However, Pujols wants to keep playing, though he's expected to rest on Sunday, regardless. "I'm going to go for it," Pujols said. "I'm not going to sit down. I'm going to keep playing."

"Every once in a while he tweaks it and then he gets some relief," manager Tony La Russa said. "It hasn't been unrelenting. He'll make a move and all of a sudden jolt it." Albert Pujols says the chronic plantar fasciitis on his left heel is still painful, according to the AP. Pujols originally decided to undergo sound wave treatment instead of surgery and while the pain subsided for a time, it has returned. "It's still bothering me," Pujols said. "It's something I'm pretty sure I'm going to go through again this year because it's too late for surgery. I don't want to miss spring training, and I don't want to miss the first month and a half of the season."
