Endy Chavez flew back to Venezuela Saturday evening to be with his family following the death of his sister, according to the New York Daily News. Obviously, he will miss the final two regular-season games this weekend.

Although Mets manager Willie Randolph said that Endy Chavez "could play" on Monday, it's not clear exactly when he will come off the disabled list. "He's about ready to go, but it's about when we want to activate him, more than anything," Randolph told the New York Daily News. "A lot depends on what we're going to do with the roster, that's what it boils down to. We have the luxury of pushing him back. If it impacts our pitching, our extra players, you have to consider that." While he could return from his strained hamstring any day now, expect him to be back no later than Sept. 1, when rosters expand.

"I'm just going to say that instead of saying he's going to be back in a week or so. I think he must have damaged his hamstring a lot more than originally thought, obviously, because it's been a while." Chavez has been out since June 6.
