Jake Peavy will start for the Padres Sunday on three days of rest, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Jake Peavy needs to pitch 42 innings between now and the end of the season to be eligible for the ERA crown, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Bruce Bochy plans to increase Peavy's workload the rest of the way, not just so that the young pitcher can contend for crown, but also because the Padres are neck and neck in the wild card race. Bochy shuffled his rotation this week so that Peavy will jump ahead of the club's No. 5 starter and pitch on normal rest against the Cardinals.

Padres trainer Todd Hutcheson said it's too early to know if the nagging forearm tightness that's affecting Jake Peavy right now will flare up into a bigger problem or lessen as the season unfolds, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Hutcheson said the tightness is probably caused by inflammation of flexor tendon sheaths near the elbow. "Tendons help to support ligaments," Hutcheson said. "If those are sore, we know the ligament is possibly at a little more risk."
