The Astros could be interested in trading for Jake Peavy, according to the Houston Chronicle. Peavy, 25, was 11-14 with a 4.09 ERA and 215 strikeouts for San Diego last season.

Jake Peavy is nursing a bruised toe, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He skipped a mound session yesterday, opting instead to throw on flat ground. Padres manager Bruce Bochy said Peavy still is expected to make his scheduled start on Friday.

Jake Peavy finally received a shipment of contact lenses with his new prescription on Wednesday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Peavy's prescription was changed during spring training, but he had trouble getting his order filled. He is legally blind without contacts. While still wearing his old lenses, Peavy apparently had trouble picking up his catchers' signs.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Jake Peavy won for the first time in nine outings on Wednesday after adjusting his spot on the pitching rubber. Peavy shifted to the third-base side, which is the push-off point he used in 2004 when he won the ERA title.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Jake Peavy had an MRI on Saturday. Manager Bruce Bochy said the test "came out very good, nothing out of the normal.” He's been bothered by tendinitis in the joint and may receive a cortisone shot the next time it flares up.

Jake Peavy, who got the start on Friday against Seattle, is scheduled to have an MRI on his shoulder on Monday, according to the AP. "It's just precautionary," said manager Bruce Bochy. "We wouldn't pitch Jake if our medical staff and training staff didn't feel like he could pitch or if Jake didn't feel like he could pitch. It is probably for reassurance and to give him peace of mind."

A bullpen session Thursday for Jake Peavy went well, and the right-hander will make his scheduled start on Sunday as planned, according to the Union-Tribune. “I knew I had to show them I could work today,” said Peavy, who has been experiencing tendinitis in his shoulder for the past month. "If I couldn't, I was looking at the disabled list.” Peavy holds a 4.56 ERA in 12 starts this season.

Padres manager Bruce Bochy said one factor in his decision to remove Jake Peavy from his 16-strikeout performance Monday after seven innings was the Peavy had complained of soreness in his shoulder in the days leading up to the start, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "In all honesty, if it had been a little different circumstances, I might have let Jake go, but not under those where he had complained of some shoulder soreness,” Bochy said. No MRI has been scheduled, and he'll be examined further this week.
