Joe Thurston has been called up from Triple-A Pawtuckett, according to the Boston Globe. He will fill the roster spot vacated by Alex Cora, who has been placed on the 15-day DL due to his sore elbow.

The Phillies purchased the contract second baseman Joe Thurston on Tuesday, according to the AP. Thurston was hitting .282 with nine HR, 55 RBI, and 20 steals for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at the time of his promotion.
