Garrett Atkins was given a day off Tuesday, after going 2-for-16 the previous four games, the AP reports.

The Angels have expressed interest in acquiring Garrett Atkins from the Rockies, according to the Denver Post. The Angels likely would have to deal someone like Ervin Santana to make it happen. However, the Rockies reportedly view Atkins as part of their core going forward, so it's unlikely a trade will be consumated. The Angels are desperate to replace the injured Garret Anderson and are looking around the league to add a bat to their lineup. Other names mentioned include Brad Hawpe and Jeff Baker.

Garrett Atkins will open the year as the third batter in the Rockies lineup, followed by Todd Helton and Matt Holliday, the team's website reports. He's had a productive spring, hitting .322 with two homers and 17 RBI.
