Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told Justin Morneau on Friday to start catching some bullpen sessions to get used to working behind the plate again, according to the Pioneer Press. He's been the emergency catcher all season, so Gardenhire wanted Morneau to get reacquainted with the job, just in case.

Justin Morneau was given the day off Friday against left-hander Kenny Rogers, but manager Ron Gardenhire said he has not lost confidence in Morneau's ablity to hit left-handers, according to the AP. "If I'm going to give him a day, I'm giving him a day against this guy," Gardenhire said. Morneau is 1-for-10 against Rogers in his career.

Although Michael Cuddyer has started against the past three left-handed starters the Twins have faced, manager Ron Gardenhire said Justin Morneau and Cuddyer are not in a platoon at first base, according to the Star-Tribune. "If Morny were going really good, it would be a no-brainer -- I'd just put him out there," Gardenhire said. "I don't want him to think that he can't hit lefties or anything like that."

Manager Ron Gardenhire stated Wednesday that he has no plans of benching Justin Morneau, who is batting just .203 this year, according to the AP. "He's just rushing," Gardenhire said. "He's not being patient enough."

Justin Morneau was replaced in the starting lineup by Michael Cuddyer on Friday, because Cuddyer was 15-for-46 in his career against starting pitcher Mark Buehrle, while Morneau was just 1-for-13, according to the Star-Tribune.
