Freddie Bynum was recalled by the Orioles and he will start at shortstop for the foreseeable future over Luis Hernandez, according to MLB.com. "To be honest with you," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said, "there have been a lot of plays that could've been made and should've been made that weren't made. So we gotta try something different. That's it."

Freddie Bynum, who is on an injury rehab assignment at Double-A Bowie, said he is pain-free and hopes to rejoin the Orioles after Bowie returns from a four-game series in New Britain that begins tonight, according to the Baltimore Sun. He is recovering from right knee surgery.

Freddie Bynum said that he felt no pain after returning to full baseball activities, and added that he will begin playing games in extended spring training on Monday, according to the Washington Post. Bynum hopes to be ready next month, as he recovers from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Freddie Bynum will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and miss at least five weeks, ending his bid to be Baltimore's starting shortstop on opening day, according to SI.com. Bynum was competing with Luis Hernandez and Brandon Fahey to fill the void at shortstop left by the offseason trade of Miguel Tejada to the Houston Astros. By submitting to surgery, Bynum eliminated himself from contention.
