Player Notes
April 3, 2008
Chris Burke is starting at first base against Cincinnati today, while Conor Jackson sits out due to illness. The utility man notably had a solid spring training.
March 28, 2008
Chris Burke should see plenty of game action once the season begins, including sporadic action at first base, according to the Arizona Republic. "I have to find ways to get Burke into games, and first base is going to be one of those places," manager Bob Melvin said. "I'm going to try to move him around as much as I can. He's basically an everyday player that doesn't have an everyday job." The utilityman is hitting .361 (22-of-61) with seven doubles and four homers this spring.
March 26, 2008
Chris Burke went 2-for-4 with two RBI against Colorado on Wednesday and notably blasted his fourth homer of the spring. That was a strong day for him as he challenges for a top bench job.
March 9, 2008
Chris Burke, acquired from Houston in the Jose Valverde deal last December, doubled twice on Sunday and drove in three runs. Burke has played at shortstop, second and third base this spring and the team would like to get him work at first before the exhibition season ends. Burke, who is hitting .363 this spring, with four doubles, a homer and five RBI, will be a valuable asset in NL-only formats by mid-season if he continues to be used in the primary utility role by manager Bob Melvin.
December 14, 2007
Chris Burke was traded to Arizona Friday as a part of the Jose Valverde trade. Burke, who hit just .229 in 319 at-bats last year, will likely be used in a utility role in Arizona.
