Edwin Encarnacion was unable to play Thursday due to his troublesome left wrist, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He's expected to play on Friday, though. "It's no big deal," Encarnacion said. "Try to protect it a little bit."

Although the Reds haven't said exactly how long Edwin Encarnacion will remain on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville, manager Jerry Narron said he would be "shocked" if the third baseman was activated from the disabled list before the All-Star break, according to the Cincinnati Post. He still has a limp from his sprained ankle and won't return until he's fully healed.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Edwin Encarnacion won't be activated from the disabled list today, as had been hoped. "I don't think so," said manager Jerry Narron. "The big thing right now is to try to get him back to 100 percent and get him as many at-bats as we can." He'll remain in the minors until his sprained ankle is fully recovered.

He has a little bit of soreness on the outside of the ankle," Reds head athletic trainer Mark Mann said. "We're just doing a lot of ice and electrical (stimulation) treatments today to try and decrease his pain, decrease his swelling. We'll progress him throughout the course of the weekend. It's a day-to-day type thing right now."

The ankle sprain that Edwin Encarnacion sustained last night is considered to be mild, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. However, he's not expected to take part in today's game.
