The Rays re-signed Grant Balfour to a one-year deal Thursday. He held a 6.14 ERA in 22 innings for Tamps last year after coming over in a trade with Milwaukee.

The Devil Rays obtained Grant Balfour from the Brewers in exchange for minor leaguer pitcher Seth McClung on Friday night, according to the AP. Balfour had been designated for assignment earlier in the day after going 0-2 with a 20.25 ERA in three appearances with Milwaukee.

Grant Balfour was recalled from Triple-A Tuesday and will work out of the bullpen, the Brewers official site reports. Balfour pitched parts of three seasons with the Twins but underwent major elbow and shoulder surgeries in 2005. The Brewers picked him off waivers last October and he has been a revelation, posting a 1.69 ERA and five saves with Triple-A Nashville.

The Brewers are expected to recall Grant Balfour to replace the injured Ben Sheets on the staff. Balfour has been terrific this year in the minors, holding a 1.87 ERA with 68 Ks over 43 1/3 innings. He'll work in middle relief for the Brewers.

Grant Balfour cleared release waivers on Thursday and signed a minor league contract with the Brewers, according to the AP. He was assigned to Double-A Huntsville.
