Omar Infante will continue to be the starting shortstop now that Carlos Guillen has been placed on the DL. Infante has been filling in for Guillen over the last several games and is hitting .232 with seven dingers and 38 RBI in 85 games this year.

Making his first start this season at shortstop, Omar Infante had his first multi-hit game since May 18, going 3-for-4. He lost his starting job at second base when the Tigers acquired Placido Polanco and had been mired in an 0-for-17 slump.

Omar Infante is out of a starting job after the Tigers acquired Placido Polanco from the Phillies on Wednesday to be their new second baseman. Infante was hitting only .215 with three home runs and 20 RBI in 172 at-bats this season.

Brandon Inge was the leadoff hitter yesterday, as Omar Infante got the day off, but Tigers manager Alan Trammell plans to stick with Infante as his leadoff batter when both are in the game, according to the Detroit Free Press. "I still give the edge to Omar," Trammell said. "I think he understands the role. He's been there more than Brandon." However, Trammell did leave open the possibility of going with the hot hand at some point.
