Nate McLouth will not play again this season, the AP reports. He's been out since Aug. 12 with a badly sprained ankle.

Nate McLouth will not need surgery on the injured ankle that has kept him out of the lineup since Aug. 11, but his return date is still unknown, according to the Post-Gazette. McLouth said an exam revealed he was born with an extra bone in the ankle, one that was being bruised by two other bones.

Nate McLouth received a cortisone shot Monday in his sprained left ankle, according to the Tribune-Review. "It's pain-free right now," McLouth said. "It's not a sprain. I have an extra part of my ankle bone that I have and not everyone has. It's not normal. When I stepped down, my tibia and my heal bone kind of crunched that bone together and it was bruised pretty badly." Manager Jim Tracy is unsure when McLouth will return from the DL.

Nate McLouth still is feeling discomfort in his sprained left ankle, so he has returned to Pittsburgh to have the joint examined further, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "We felt we were making progress," manager Jim Tracy said, "but then it regressed to where it's stagnating."

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Nate McLouth probably won't be activated from the disabled list on Friday as had been hoped. He's still recovering from a sprained left ankle.

Manager Jim Tracy said that Nate McLouth will probably come off the DL this weekend when he is eligible, according to the AP. McLouth has been on the DL since Aug. 12 with a left ankle sprain.

Nate McLouth will leave the Pirates today to go to Florida to begin rehabbing his sprained left ankle, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He could rejoin the Pirates when they finish up their road trip next Thursday, though he wouldn't be eligible to come off the DL until next Saturday.

The Pirates placed Nate McLouth on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle. He was replaced on the roster by Rajai Davis.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Nate McLouth had no improvement in the status of his sore left ankle. It's possible he could be headed to the disabled list. "It has not improved since we took him out of (Friday's) game," said manager Jim Tracy.

Even though he is hitting just .238, Nate McLouth could see more playing time in the second half, according to the Tribune-Review. "I'm looking to involve him as much as I can" Manager Jim Tracy said. "Every at-bat he will get from now until the end of the year will benefit him. It goes without saying that he has a real opportunity to be part of the (outfield) situation for this team."

Manager Jim Tracy said that Nate McLouth will get more playing time in the second half of the season, according to the AP. While Jose Bautista has been playing well in center field, McLouth is expected to take some playing time away from Jeromy Burnitz in right. Burnitz is expected to be traded by the end of the month, so McLouth could see even more playing time in August and September.

Now that Chris Duffy has been sent to the minors, Nate McLouth will serve as the Pirates primary center fielder. McLouth is hitting .234 with one homer, four RBI and three steals in 77 at-bats with the Bucs this year.

Now that Jody Gerut has been sent to the minors, Nate McLouth is almost certain to make the Pirates as a reserve outfielder. McLouth is hitting .352 this spring with six steals in six attempts.
