Cody Ross is out of Thursday's lineup due to an arm injury, according to the Miami Herald. Ross took a Russ Springer fastball on the left arm in the sixth inning of Tuesday's win over St. Louis and refused to come out of the game despite being in pain. He said, "It's a little swollen and a little bruised so they decided to give me a little rest. It flared up right away. I was trying to throw in the outfield and I had a little problem doing that. But I wanted to stay in for defensive reasons. That was a big game for us. I didn't want to come out. But it was getting worse. It really tightened up on me."

For the Marlins, it was newly-crowned leadoff man CF Cody Ross getting the job done on offense. However, it's possible Ross could eventually win the everyday job. "I'm not opposed to Cody being the every day guy as soon as his legs are built up," manager Fredi Gonzalez said on MLB.com. Ross dealt with a knee injury in spring training. He's talented enough to be a viable mixed league option if he plays every day.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez said that Ross should be ready for opening day and that the outfielder would likely get the start in center field against Mets' lefty Johan Santana, according to MLB.com. Ross could be worthy of a mixed league pick if he was playing every day, but he will share time with Alejandro De Aza, at least initially.

Cody Ross says that the injury he suffered on Friday to his knee is minor and that it has nothing to do with the hamstring issues he experienced last season, this according to MLB.com. "I'm going to ice it today, and see how it feels," Ross said. "If it feels good tomorrow, I'll continue on with the activities. If it is sore, I'll just treat it day by day. I don't see this being at all a problem." Ross is batting for playing time on a team that has been beset by injuries in the OF, though he is nothing more than an NL Only play at the moment.

Ross missed a good chunk of last season with hamstring problems, but he was hoping an offseason procedure would correct the problem. His injury could open the door for Cameron Maybin to make the team.

Cody Ross had a new medical procedure this off-season on his injured hamstring and the results appear to be very positive for team's leading returning hitter (.335) according to MLB.com. Ross will likely battle for the Marlins fifth OF spot, but if Cameron Maybin isn't ready to take over in CF, there is a chance that Ross could open the year in the starting lineup.
