| September 1, 2006 Indians manager Eric Wedge said that Victor Martinez fouled a ball of his toe at least two months ago and it's had a lasting effect on the catcher's performance gunning out runners and perhaps hitting, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. "I don't think it's broken," Wedge said. "But because he has continued to play every day, it never really had a chance to get better. It's just something he's going to have to play with the rest of the season, because it's not going to go away... At first, the toe affected his throwing, but not now. Victor's throws have been much better the past month or so." |
