Koyie Hill will undergo surgery on Friday to repair his broken right ankle. He will be in a cast for six weeks and a walking boot for six weeks after that. After taking X-rays Tuesday, the D'Backs realized that Hill might have problems down the road if he didn't undergo surgery to repair the fracture.

The Diamondbacks placed Koyie Hill on the 15-day disabled list. Hill is expected to miss the rest of the season with a broken right ankle.

Koyie Hill started behind the plate for the Diamondbacks on Sunday in his major league debut. Hill, who was 0-for-4, was acquired from the Dodgers in the Steve Finley trade and is expected to be the everyday catcher in Arizona.

The Diamondbacks acquired Koyie Hill from the Dodgers Saturday in the Steve Finley swap. He was batting .286 with 13 homers and 54 RBI in 91 games for Triple-A Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League.
