USATODAY.com reports that Kelly Johnson and Martin Prado will compete for the second base job of the Braves next season. Other reports have Willy Aybar in the mix, as well. Although Kelly Johnson has shown on his rehab assignment that his ailing elbow isn't affecting his swing, he still can't throw without concern for the joint, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He's scheduled to be examined by Dr. James Andrews soon and might opt for a second surgery on the elbow, which was operated on after last season.

The Braves are considering playing Kelly Johnson some at third base during his ongoing rehab assignment, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Originally drafted as a shortstop, Johnson has since converted to the outfield, but if he played third base he could reduce the stress on his surgically repaired elbow as well as showcase his versatility for a possible trade.

Kelly Johnson was 1-for-4 in a rehab game on Saturday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The outfielder, who has been out all season due to soreness in his surgically repaired elbow, has been working out in the infield. He may work as a utilityman if his elbow isn't up to throwing from the outfield.

Kelly Johnson likely will begin the season on the disabled list or at Triple-A Richmond because he has yet to return from his sore elbow, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It's extremely frustrating," said Johnson. "Bad timing. Really, really bad timing."

Kelly Johnson will miss a few days with a sore elbow and may start the season at Triple-A Richmond, at least in part because he has a minor league option left, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
