The Houston Chronicle reports that Jose Castillo was outrighted to Triple-A on Wednesday. Pitchers Dave Borkowski, Jack Cassel and Ryan Houston joined him in the demotion.

Jose Castillo has been recalled by the Astros, according to the Houston Chronicle. He was recently claimed off waivers from the Giants. Castillo is pleased to be a member of the Astros, and said, "I’ve always liked this team. I’ve always had a dream to play on this team. Thankfully, the opportunity to play with the team is here. We’re going to try to do things right and try 100 percent to stay here." Manager Cecil Cooper added, "We all like him at second, but I think he can play third. And we’ll find out if he can play shortstop. It will probably be at home. It will probably be midweek at home, but we’ll find out."

San Francisco 3B Jose Castillo enjoyed an outstanding day at the ballpark today, going 4-for-4 in the Giants' 8-2 win over Philadelphia. Castillo hit his 12th double of the season, driving in one run and adding three runs scored to the day.

San Francisco 3B Jose Castillo jacked just his 2nd home run of the season in the Giants' 12-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates this evening, but he made it count for three RBIs to top the San Francisco effort. Castillo went 1-for-3 with a walk on the evening, leaving two men on base along the way.

In a spring training journey that can only be described as amazing, Jose Castillo has earned the job as the Giants’ starting third baseman, according to MLB.com. Castillo was signed by the Giants after the Marlins dismissed him from their competition at 3B, and in just one week of work, he has been named as a member of the starting lineup. Manager Bruce Bochy has also announced Rich Aurilia will now serve as the team’s starting first baseman.

The Giants have claimed infielder Jose Castillo off of waivers and the Marlins have let him go in that direction, according to the Florida Sun-Sentinel. The details of the move have yet to be determined (the Marlins could seek a trade agreement or simply let the Giants accept Castillo's $650K contract). The side effects of this move for both squads bear mentioning. The Marlins were rumored to be considering a roster that would include both Castillo and Jorge Cantu. Cantu is now the man. For the Giants, rumors of a potential trade for Wes Helms, Joe Crede, or Brandon Inge are all but dead.

The Marlins have placed Jose Castillo on waivers, according to MLB.com. This doesn't necessarily mean he won't be with the team this year, as the Fish could just be gauging interest from other teams for a possible trade. However, it likely means that Jorge Cantu has won the third base battle. We'll keep you posted on Castillo's status.

Jose Castillo , fighting for consideration for the starting job at 3B for the Marlins, enjoyed a nice showing today, going 1-for-3 with a run scored in the Marlins' 5-2 win over Boston in Grapefruit League play. Castillo also added a stolen base, flashing his speed as a primary attribute he hopes could help his effort to win a spot on the major league roster.

The Marlins may enter the 2008 season with a platoon at third base, the Miami Herald reports. The competition is wide open between Jose Castillo, Dallas McPherson, and Jorge Cantu. The Marlins have ruled out moving Dan Uggla to third. Fantasy owners should not be expecting much to come of this battle, although NL-only fantasy owners will undoubtedly need to pay attention.
