Jonny Gomes went 3-for-4 with three home runs and three RBI on Satuday night. Gomes is now batting .295 with 12 home runs and 24 RBI in 149 at-bats this season.

The Devil Rays recalled Jonny Gomes from Triple-A Durham on Monday. He was hitting .321 with 14 homers and 46 RBI in 45 games before the promotion. During an eight-game stint with the Rays earlier in the year, he hit .304 with two home runs and five RBI. He will likely assume a large portion of the club's regular DH duties.

The Devil Rays sent Jonny Gomes to Triple-A Durham on Tuesday to clear space for Jesus Colome on the roster. Gomes batted .304 with two home runs and five RBI in 23 at-bats in Tampa.

Jonny Gomes will remain with the Devil Rays for now, as he escaped a demotion when Seth McClung was sent to the minors instead. There's still a good chance he'll get sent down when Jesus Colome comes off the disabled list, likely late next week, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Despite hitting .333 with three RBI in four games, Jonny Gomes still appears to be the most likely candidate to be sent down to make room on the Devil Rays roster for the return of Mark Hendrickson Saturday, according to the St. Petersburg Times. "He's making a case to stay here," manager Lou Piniella said. "But we're not going to be able to stay with 11 pitchers; we don't have that luxury. We'll see what happens. I don't know what we'll do."

Jonny Gomes was optioned to Triple-A Durham by the Devil Rays on Wednesday, according to the St. Petersburg Times.
