Jonny Gomes had three hits, including a pair of two-run home runs Sunday. Gomes, who was just recalled on Thursday, finished the three-game series against the Rockies 7-for-11 with two doubles to go along with his two homers. "Jonny wants to play every day," manager Joe Maddon said in the AP. "I believe he's the kind of player and the kind of guy we're looking for. He brings a lot of energy." Gomes has been playing over Elijah Dukes the last couple games but will face another challenge to gain at-bats when Rocco Baldelli comes off the DL this week.

Jonny Gomes has been recalled to take the injured B.J. Upton's spot on the roster. Gomes hit just .184 in 49 at-bats earlier this year with Tampa. He will likely get plenty of time in the DH slot, with Ty Wigginton taking over for Upton at second.

The Devil Rays sent Jonny Gomes to the minors on Monday to create space on the roster for Akinori Iwamura, who just returned from the DL, according to the AP. Gomes, who is hitting just .184 with one homer in 49 at-bats this year, was not happy about the decision. "I'm pretty bummed out. ... They wanted for me to go down and get at-bats. I thought I could get at-bats here," Gomes said.

Jonny Gomes has beaten out Jorge Cantu for the final roster spot in Tampa Bay. However, with Rocco Baldelli serving as the team's DH early in the year, at-bats for Gomes could be tough to come by in the short term.

Jonny Gomes may be battling with Jorge Cantu for a roster spot, assuming Brendan Harris has already made the team, the Tampa Tribune reports. Gomes and Cantu both have one option remaining, for what it's worth. Gomes is hitting .246 this spring, with four homers and 22 strikeouts in 57 at-bats.

Jonny Gomes, who dealt with an injured right shoulder most of last year, has been feeling no ill effects from the injury, according to the AP. "Right now, I'm 100 percent," said Gomes. "It's great just to be out there. Last year I couldn't even throw. I couldn't do anything over the head." Gomes is hitting .250 (2-for-8) so far this spring. Both of those hits were home runs.

Jonny Gomes, who underwent shoulder surgery in September, said his shoulder is 100 percent, according to the Tampa Tribune. "I'm full-go," he said. "There's no exercise, no hitting, no throwing that I have to hold back. Right before I left [California] I was throwing the length of a soccer field and hitting live." And although Gomes weighs roughly the same as he did last year, he really bulked up over the offseason. "Did you see Jonny Gomes walking around?" Devil Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "Oh my God - I didn't even recognize him."
