MLB.com reports that Lastings Milledge , who has been on the disabled list since June 28 because of a right groin strain, was promoted to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday after playing two games for Rookie-level Gulf Coast. Milledge was 1-for-4 with a home run for the GC Nationals and was 1-for-8 for the Clippers. He is expected to return to the Nationals on Friday.

Milledge has come into camp with all the motivation to show and prove. The Nats lured the Mets into a trade they had been unwilling to make for some time, and now Milledge is working to be the feather in the Washington cap. Thus far, he's been everything they hoped he would be and more.

At the moment, Lastings Milledge has been given the green light from manager Manny Acta to attempt steals whenever he wants to, according to the Washington Post. "He has that desire," Acta said Thursday. "He wants to be a guy who steals 30 or more bases. He likes to run. We already had our talk, and he understands if he shows me he can run successfully, you go for it." Milledge swiped 79 bags over parts of five minor league seasons, but he'll need to improve on his 67.5 percent success rate if he's going to keep that green light on.

Lastings Milledge is ready to prove to the Nationals that they made the right decision in trading for him to be the team's center fielder according to a report on MLB.com. "It didn't surprise me that they traded me," Milledge said. "I was surprised where I went. I didn't think I would be in the same division. You would rather see the Mets trade their best prospect [to a non-division team]." Milledge will look to show his 5-tool talent this year and to put behind him the questions that have dogged him about his show boating and off-field persona. There is no denying the talent and this year he should get the chance to prove he is as good as he thinks he is.
