Chad Tracy is out of a third base job with the Diamondbacks now that the team has signed Troy Glaus. The Arizona Republic reports that Tracy will move to first base or the outfield. With Shea Hillenbrand probably set at first base, right field might be his best bet. Tracy has just one professional game in the outfield (last season), but he did spend some time there in winter ball last year.

D'Backs manager Bob Brenly reiterated that Chad Tracy will see the majority of playing time at third base, with Shea Hillenbrand seeing occasional duty against left-handed pitching, according to the Arizona Republic. Hillenbrand had been starting at first base with Richie Sexson on the DL, though he'll go back to the bench now that Sexson has returned. Hillenbrand did start at third on Friday in Sexson's first game back, but Brenly said that was only because Tracy hadn't been given a day off to rest in quite a while.

Diamondbacks manager Bob Brenly put Chad Tracy in the leadoff spot Monday, bumping Matt Kata from the top of the order to eighth, according to the Arizona Republic. He also moved Alex Cintron from No. 2 to seventh, with Robby Hammock hitting second. "It's strictly a day-to-day thing," Brenly said.

Chad Tracy has only been in the big leagues for 16 games, but he committed his eighth error of the season on Sunday. He also hit 2-for-4 to raise his average to .361, but once his bat cools off the D'Backs may grow more concerned about his glove.
April 29, 2004
Chad Tracy won't have to worry about Shea Hillenbrand reclaiming his third base job for a while because Hillenbrand will be playing first base in the absence of the injured Richie Sexson.

Chad Tracy went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and hit his first major league homer Tuesday, validating Arizona manager Bob Brenly's decision to make the rookie the D'backs' starter at third base against right-handed pitchers. He has five hits in his last seven at-bats.

The Diamondbacks suprisingly elected to option Chad Tracy to Triple-A Tucson. Tracy worked on playing the outfield over the winter in an effort to improve his chances of making the team. Instead, the D\'Backs go into the season without a true reserve outfielder.
