The Nationals recalled Ryan Church before Saturday's game because they needed another outfielder after Alex Escobar suffered a right hamstring injury on Friday, according to the AP. Church hit .215 with four homers and 11 RBI in 23 games earlier this year with the Nationals.

The Nationals optioned Ryan Church to Double-A Harrisburg on Friday, according to the AP. Church, who is hitting just .215 this year, is 4-for-23 in May. "He's a little confused right now, swinging at the pitchers' pitches, taking his pitch," Nationals manager Frank Robinson said. "We want him to get back in a good groove." Alex Escobar is expected to be recalled from Triple-A to replace Church in center field.
