Church was examined by a neurologist and underwent an MRI exam that did not reveal any brain injuries. GM Omar Minaya said Church is considered day-to-day and could rejoin the team Wednesday, but the GM also didn't rule out a potentialy DL stint for the outfielder. "It's going to be how he feels," Minaya said. "We've done a CT scan and that came out normal. The MRI has come out normal. Church has generated two singles, one home run, and two walks over nine career plate appearances versus Kendrick. Church is off to a solid start as he is hitting 8-for-24, with one homer and six RBI, and looks to have a good day at the plate today.

Given 500 AB, there is no reason to think that Church will fail to turn in a 20 HR, 80 RBI season, and if he is able to reach those levels he would seem to be a fine depth outfielder.

I just want to keep seeing him make the progress hitting the ball the other way, and getting the ball through the middle, that’s where he’s gonna make his money…He’s a little bit behind, so he needs at bats, but he’s got plenty of time to get ready…If he just hits the ball the other way against against lefties, he’s gonna be fine…We want him to see him get his hits to build his confidence, but I’m not looking at him as having to get hits to get on our team, obviously. He’s going to be my right fielder." Church makes a favorable late round draft selection.

Ryan Church, hitting a robust .152, still has confidence that he will be able to produce for the Mets this season thanks to a new batting stance, this according to MLB.com. "It feels better when I'm loading," Church says. "I feel more balanced. I keep my hands lower, too, so now I don't drop the barrel so much. And I'm using my legs more. ... When I do it right, it works well." Church figures to be the full-time RF this season for the Mets, a fact that many people have seemed to overlook as Church is being taken very late in drafts. He likely isn't a breakout candidate, but a 20 HR, 80 RBI season appears within reach.

"Willie (Randolph) asked me if I wanted another day (off), but I wanted to get out there," Church said. "I'm a little fatigued, a little tired, but other than that, no headaches or dizzy spells. I feel good. I didn't think about it at all ... and now I can just put it behind me. I know I can play (today) if I feel like I do right now." It looks like Church is good to go and should be fine for opening day.

Ryan Church experienced a set back in his return from a concussion after experiencing dizziness on Wednesday, this according to MLB.com. "Not a good day," Church said. "Yesterday, I felt fine. Today, not so much." With Moises Alou out 4-6 weeks due to a hernia operation, the Mets will need to bring someone in to fill in for the two, that is unless they believe Endy Chavez will be healthy enough to start by opening day.

Ryan Church ran on a treadmill in a pool Tuesday, his first activity since sustaining a Grade III concussion on Saturday, and reported no dizziness, according to the AP. "It’s a good sign, a good start," he said. "I feel a lot better." He'll find out Wednesday from the training staff what his next step will be, though he hopes he'll be taking batting practice soon. If he continues to recover without a setback, Church should be ready for the start of the season.

That's the middle of three grades of severity given for concussions. He won't be allowed to play until all the symptoms have subsided, so consider him week-to-week at this point.

"He doesn’t remember anything about anything," said Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz said. "He doesn’t remember going out to catch the ball. He doesn’t remember the collision. He’s able to walk. His jaw is sore. But he’s a little woozy." It sounds like Church will be out for at least a little while, but for how long will depend on the severity of the concussion. Ryan Church will have the inside track to start in RF for the Mets according to a report in the AP. "My goal this spring training is to focus more on hitting off lefties. If there's opportunities to step in against these guys during BP, anything like that." Church struggled to hit lefties last year (.229) though he is slightly better against southpaws in his career (.254). If Church can overcome this deficiency he could be a nice 4th OF in mixed leagues with the potential to hit 20 HR with 80 RBI.
